Often I find that human relationships are like sandcastles. They require diligence and tenacity to build, exemplify evanescent beauty while they last, and can be washed away in a moment. I concede that relationships are often more enduring than sandcastles, and yet, like all things linked to human experience, they are transient. These images of my mother and I contrast the delicate and bold qualities of oil paint to explore devotional tenderness and wistful reactions to change. My paintings seek to capture the beauty, the nostalgia, and the pain of experiencing this ephemeral quality of human relationships.
